Texture is what separates a good dial from a flat one
Two watches can share the same colour, the same size and the same hands, and one still looks more expensive. Almost always it comes down to whether the dial has any surface to it.

Light does the decorating
The stripes are fine ridges cut across the face rather than lines printed onto it. That distinction is everything: printed lines look the same from every angle, ridges change constantly.
Turn your wrist and the dial goes from near-solid to clearly banded. It is the cheapest kind of interest a watch can have, and almost nobody at this price includes it.
Hands and markers are kept slim so the texture stays the subject.

Can you feel the stripes?
No — they sit under the crystal. The effect is visual, seen as light moves across the dial.
Does the texture make it harder to read?
The ridges run behind the hands rather than across the markers, so legibility is unaffected.
Is 3.5 cm a mid-size?
Yes. It is large enough to show the dial texture properly and still sit comfortably under a sleeve.
