01 — The idea
Black is safe in daylight and invisible after dark
In an evening room — low light, warm bulbs — a black bag stops being a colour and becomes a shape. Burgundy does the opposite: dark enough to sit with anything, but with enough red in it that every warm light in the room finds it. It is the same discipline as black and none of the disappearing act, which is the entire argument for choosing it.
02 — Design
Lacquer deepens a colour rather than brightening it
A patent finish adds depth to whatever is underneath, which is why it flatters dark tones and struggles with mid ones. On burgundy it does the most useful thing it can do: the surface reflects the room, the colour underneath stays deep, and the bag ends up looking wet rather than shiny.
The front panel is completely plain — no quilting, no stitch detail, nothing but the flap line and a single ornament at the centre. On a reflective surface that is deliberate, because a lacquered finish already gives the eye a great deal to look at.

03 — Build
The chain is thin on purpose
A heavy chain would fight this bag. At roughly 20 by 13.5 centimetres and five deep, the proportion is slight, and a wide chain across it reads as a bag wearing something too big for it — the strap becomes the object rather than the bag.
A fine rope chain keeps the balance and stays light on the shoulder. The trade is honest: it is not a strap built to carry weight all day, and this is not a bag meant to hold enough for that to matter.

04 — Versatility
A clutch that happens to come with a chain
At 112 to 118 centimetres the chain is a true crossbody length rather than a shoulder one, which is the useful end of the range for a bag this light. Unclipped it becomes a flat clutch — and because the fittings are two small rings rather than a permanent strap anchor, nothing about it still looks like a shoulder bag when you carry it that way.

Five centimetres of depth, and no pretending
A phone, a card case, keys and a lipstick, with the flap closing flat over them. That is genuinely it. Five centimetres is an evening depth, and a bag this shape stops looking like itself the moment it is overfilled.
The interior pocket is the useful part: it keeps cards and a key separate from a phone screen in a compartment with no other divisions.

Why this makes sense
Patent is the least forgiving finish to work in. A reflection runs the whole length of a panel, so any wave in the leather, any pull at a seam and any misalignment at the flap edge is magnified rather than hidden. Nothing can be corrected after the finish goes on.

Before you order
How dark is the burgundy?
Dark enough to pass for black at a distance and in low light, and clearly red under any warm or direct light. If you want a colour that announces itself in daylight, this is the wrong one.
Does patent leather crack?
Not on flat panels that do not flex. Cracking happens where lacquered leather is folded repeatedly, which is why patent suits a structured shape like this one rather than a soft slouchy bag.
Are the measurements exact?
They are given as approximate and rounded, because this shape is measured across a flap that curves. Expect a few millimetres either way rather than centimetres.

A deep burgundy is mixed for a batch of hides and lacquered on top, and any variation between batches is amplified by the finish rather than hidden by it. Each run is tied to a single dyeing.
