01 — The idea
Most shapes are decoration. This one solved a problem.
Pilots kept getting blinded by light coming in under the frame when they looked down. The answer was to extend the lens below the line of the cheekbone, which is why an aviator is deeper at the bottom than any other shape and why the lower edge curves rather than cuts straight across.
02 — Design
Four options, because four is enough
Two metals and two lens choices. That is deliberately the smallest range we carry, and it is the right one for a shape that has not needed redesigning in ninety years.
The double bridge is the second piece of functional inheritance: two bars instead of one, because a single bridge on a lens this deep would flex. It is also the detail that makes the shape recognisable from across a room.

03 — Build
A deep lens needs a rigid rim
An aviator lens is taller than almost anything else on the market, and a tall lens levers against its rim every time the frame is opened or set down. A rim that is not stiff enough lets the lens creep, and eventually rattle.
The lenses are polarized — the natural pairing for this shape, since the whole point of an aviator is looking down towards a reflective surface. Full UV400 block on all four.

Does an aviator suit a small face?
It is the deepest lens shape there is, so on a short face it can reach the cheek. If that is a concern, our squared aviator has the same double bridge with a shallower lens.
Gold or silver?
Gold reads warmer and more classic; silver is quieter and pairs with steel watches and white gold. Both carry the identical lens.
Why only four options?
Because the shape does not need more. Everything that makes an aviator work is already in it — the rest would be colours for their own sake.
