01 — The idea
Black, with something to look at
A black bag lives or dies on its outline, because the colour gives you nothing. This one has folding sides that narrow when it is light and open out when it is full — so it changes shape through the day instead of sitting there as a flat black rectangle.
02 — Design
The sides fold in
This is not a rigid box. The gussets are cut to collapse inwards at a set point, so the bag narrows when it is light and opens out when it is full, and the flap sits flat either way. That is what keeps a soft bag from turning into a sack.
The gold fittings are three: a turn closure at the centre of the flap, a pair of anchors where the handle meets the body, and rings for the strap. On black they are the only thing that catches the light, which is the entire reason to choose warm metal here.
The handle is rolled and short at 7 cm of drop — a hand carry, which is what the separate strap is there to complement.
03 — Inside
Two pockets, not one
Most bags at this size give you a single slit pocket and leave everything else loose. This one has a zipped pocket as well, which is where a card, a key or a note stops disappearing to the bottom. With 10 cm of depth behind it, the main compartment stays a compartment rather than a slot.

Rigid panels can be glued over a frame; folded gussets cannot — they have to be shaped so that they collapse in the same place every time and spring back without creasing where they should not. Is this real leather?
No. The maker lists vegan leather for the exterior and polyester for the lining. Vegan leather is a synthetic material used in place of animal hide.
