01 — The idea
Two materials, and that is the design
The maker calls this Brown Canvas, and it is worth being precise: the body is a natural, undyed canvas — pale, almost oatmeal — and the brown is the trim, the handles and the band across the front. The contrast between the two is the only decoration on the bag.
02 — Design
Canvas body, leather-look edges
The body panels and the folded wings are canvas, which is why the bag reads as light and slightly textured rather than solid. Every edge that takes wear — the top band, the corners, the handle anchors — is finished in brown, so the weakest points on a canvas bag are the ones carrying the reinforcement.
Against that, the only metal is a small gold clasp at the centre of the front panel, sitting on the brown band rather than on the canvas.
The handles are rolled rather than flat, with a 20 cm drop — enough to clear a coat sleeve and sit on the shoulder.

The wings are the difficult part. Each side is cut, folded and stitched so that it opens and closes the same way every time, and so the bag still sits flat when it is put down. A straight-sided tote is a handful of rectangles; this is a pattern that has to be solved before it can be sewn.
Joining two materials is the other difficulty. Canvas and a coated trim stretch differently under the needle, so every seam between them has to be fed at a rate that keeps both flat — get it wrong and the band puckers along its whole length.

Before you order
Is there a shoulder strap?
No. This bag has twin handles only, with a 20 cm drop, which is long enough to sit on the shoulder. No detachable strap is supplied.
Is the whole bag brown?
No. The body is a natural, pale canvas and the brown is the trim, the handles and the front band. The maker lists canvas as the main material and polyester for the lining — no animal hide is used.
Will my laptop or tablet fit?
A 12.9-inch iPad Pro fits, as stated by the maker. A 13-inch laptop is a similar footprint but thicker, so it will go in but will take most of the 13.5 cm depth.
Will pale canvas mark?
More readily than a coated surface, and canvas cannot simply be wiped — it absorbs. Keep it away from wet denim, deal with anything spilt at once, and expect a pale canvas to soften in tone with use rather than stay showroom clean.
