A full crystal bezel commits you to a look. A few placed accents give you the same catch of light without the watch announcing itself — which is the version most people actually wear every day.

Placing a few stones is harder than covering a bezel, because each one has to earn its position. Too many and it becomes a set bezel; too few and the dial looks unfinished.
Here they sit as markers rather than as ornament, which means they do a job on the dial as well as catching light.
