01 — The idea
The bridge number is the one that decides the fit
Lens width tells you how big the frame looks. Temple length is nearly always 140 to 145 and barely varies. The bridge — the gap between the two lenses — is the one that decides whether a pair sits where it should or slides down all day, and it is the number nobody ever checks.
02 — Design
How to use the numbers
Find the three figures printed on the inside of the arm of any pair you already own — they read as something like 52–18–140. The middle one is the bridge. If yours is 18 and this frame is 20, these will sit slightly lower and wider on your nose; if yours is 22, they will sit higher.
Lens width here is 49 mm, which is a moderate frame rather than an oversized one, and lens height is 35 mm — deep enough to cover without reaching the cheekbone.

03 — Build
Acetate, and why the rim has angles
Acetate is cut from sheet rather than injected into a mould, which is what allows a rim to have a defined edge and a sharp inner angle instead of a soft rounded one. The geometry on this frame is only possible because of how the material is worked.
Colour in acetate also runs through the block rather than sitting on the surface, so a scratch does not show as a pale line.

A standard fit, stated out loud.
49–20–145 is close to the middle of the range for an adult frame. That is not a compromise — it is the size that fits the largest number of faces, and knowing it in advance is the point.

Before you order
Where do I find the numbers on my current pair?
Printed on the inside of the left arm, usually near the hinge, in the format 52–18–140. Some frames put them on the bridge instead.
What if my bridge is much smaller than 20 mm?
A wider bridge than you are used to will let the frame sit lower on your nose. Two or three millimetres is barely noticeable; five or more will be.
Is this a large frame?
No. At 49 mm lens width it is a standard adult size. Our oversized square models run 55 mm if you want something noticeably bigger.
