01 — The idea
Ornament, used deliberately
Almost all contemporary jewellery is reduced to clean lines. This goes the other way: a carved, curling frame that belongs to another century, kept wearable by putting something completely flat and completely black in the middle of it.

Two surfaces, no middle ground
The enamel oval is glass-smooth and takes a single clean highlight. The leaves around it are modelled with ridges and hollows and throw light in a dozen directions at once. Nothing on this earring is halfway between the two.
The leaf tips are not contained within an outline either — they curl outward past where a frame would normally stop, which is what stops the piece from reading as a plain bezel with decoration stuck on.
Against black, gold reads warmer than it does against any other colour. That pairing is doing most of the work here.

Are these hoops?
No. Despite the listing name, they are stud earrings: a black enamel oval inside a solid cast frame. Nothing is open or ring-shaped.
Is the black a stone?
It is enamel — filled and fired into the metal rather than set as a separate stone. That is why the surface is completely even, with no facets or bezel line.
Are they heavy on the ear?
They have real presence at roughly 30 mm, but the back of the frame is hollow rather than solid. If you normally wear small studs, expect to notice these.
Are the measurements exact?
The height and width are close approximations taken from the photographs rather than figures from the maker. Expect small variation.
