01 — The idea
The colour is the only decoration
25 cm wide and only 14 cm high: long and low, closer to a clutch lying on its side than to a handbag. There is no print, no trim and no plate on it, so a deep claret is doing the whole job — which is why the shade has to be right rather than merely red.

Claret, smooth and matt
The finish is a smooth matt claret rather than a patent or a grain. Matt is the harder choice on a plain panel — it gives back no shine to distract the eye — and on a red it is the difference between a colour that looks considered and one that looks lacquered.
The body is wider at the base than at the top, with a single band across the opening and a flat handle set into it. The zip runs the full width, and the gold pull is the only piece of metal you see from the front — warm metal on a red with brown in it rather than blue.
Inside there is one slit pocket, and the lining is polyester rather than a raw finish.

The handle drop is 3 cm — enough to lift the bag off a table, not to carry it for an evening. The detachable strap adjusts between 49 and 56 cm of drop, which is crossbody on most people. With it removed, this is a flat clutch and nothing about the outline says a strap was ever there.

Is this real leather?
No. The maker lists vegan leather for the exterior and polyester for the lining. Vegan leather is a synthetic material used in place of animal hide.
Can it be carried by the handle?
Only briefly. The handle drop is 3 cm, enough to lift the bag from a table but not to clear a hand comfortably. The 49 to 56 cm strap is how this bag is meant to be worn.
How dark is the claret?
Deep — a burgundy rather than a bright cherry. The finish is matt, with no gloss and no grain, so under indoor light it reads almost brown-red and in daylight the red comes forward.
How much does it hold?
