01 — The idea
A soft bag shows you exactly what the leather is
Take away the board, the reinforced panels and the shaped base, and nothing holds the shape but the hide. Stiff, heavily coated leather creases in hard straight lines and keeps them. Supple calf leather falls in soft folds that move when you move and settle again when you put the bag down. You can see which is which from across a room.

The fold is the design
The front panel is cut to gather slightly under its own weight and the base curves instead of sitting flat. That is what makes the bag lie against the body rather than standing away from it — a flat-bottomed bag on a shoulder strap always pushes out at the hip.
The hardware is deliberately small: a discreet squared fastening and a flat strap anchor. On a bag whose whole appeal is the drape, heavy metal pieces pull the leather out of line and kill the fold they sit on.

Where a soft bag actually gives out
Not the leather. The strap anchors. On a structured bag the frame shares the load; here every kilogram travels through the two points where the strap meets the body, every time the bag is picked up.

The strap adjusts, which sounds like a small thing until you have owned a bag that does not. At full length it sits across the body and leaves your hands free. Shortened, it rides high under the arm — which is how a hobo is meant to be worn, and the reason the shape exists at all.

Will it hold its shape when empty?
No — and it is not supposed to. This is a soft bag: it collapses into folds when empty and fills out when loaded. If you want a silhouette that stands on a table by itself, you want a structured bag instead.
Can I wear it across the body?
Yes. The strap adjusts along its length, so it works on the shoulder or crossbody without any swapping of parts.
How do I look after soft calf leather?
Wipe it with a dry soft cloth and keep it out of long stretches of direct sun. When you store it, put something soft inside so the folds do not set permanently in one place.
