01 — The idea
Soft material, hard handle — the join is where these bags fail
Woven raffia flexes. Wood does not. Every time the bag is lifted, the load passes from something that moves into something that cannot, and if that transition is not properly reinforced the weave pulls away from the handle within a season. It is the single point worth inspecting on any bag built this way.
02 — Design
Why the crescent needs a rigid handle
A crescent is a curve with no flat edge to stand on. In a soft material it has nothing holding the top line apart, so without something rigid across the opening the whole shape sags into a pouch and the silhouette you bought disappears.
The wood handle solves that and does a second job at the same time: it sets the carrying height. A fixed curved handle means the bag always sits in the same place under the arm, which is the entire appeal of the shape.

03 — Build
A zip in a woven bag is not a given
Most raffia bags are open-topped, because fitting a zip means sewing a firm tape onto a material that stretches in every direction. Done badly it puckers along the whole opening. Done properly, it is the difference between a bag you can take on a crowded train and one you cannot.
Leather is used where the bag takes wear — the handle mounts and the top edge — rather than as trim scattered for effect.

04 — Versatility
Two ways to carry, and they look like two different bags
Held by the wood handle it reads as an evening piece: the curve sits high, the handle is the focus. Clip on the adjustable strap and it becomes an everyday crossbody, with the handle reduced to a detail across the top. Same bag, two entirely different registers.

Brown and black are the two that carry through to autumn. Light blue, mint green and light pink are summer colours and are made in smaller quantities — pale raffia has to be woven from the cleanest fibre, which limits how much of it there is.
06 — The value
Why this makes sense
There is no machine that weaves raffia into a curve. The crescent has to be shaped by hand as it is woven, which is slow, and then married to a rigid handle without either part fighting the other. That is the cost, and it is all in labour rather than materials.

How much does it hold?
A phone, a slim wallet, keys, sunglasses and a lipstick. The crescent is a compact evening-to-daytime shape — it is not built to take a water bottle or a book.
Does the wood handle mark?
It picks up a patina where it is held, the way any wood does, and that is the only change you should expect. Keep it dry and out of prolonged direct sun.
Can it be worn crossbody?
Yes. The adjustable strap is included and clips on independently of the wood handle, so you can switch between the two without changing anything else.
