01 — The idea
Perforated leather is a structural decision disguised as a pattern
Punch holes through a panel and you weaken it — there is no way around that. The leather has to be chosen thicker and firmer than it would be for a plain bag of the same size, or the panel stretches around the openings and the pattern distorts within months. When you see a perforated bag with oval holes that were once round, that is what happened.
02 — Design
A bucket is the only shape a drawstring suits
A drawstring gathers the opening into a circle. On a flat or rectangular bag that fights the shape and the top never closes cleanly. On a round bucket the gather follows the form it already has, which is why the two have always gone together.
The cord is braided leather rather than cord or webbing. It holds the gather where you set it instead of loosening as you walk, and it does not fray at the ends the way a textile cord does after a year of being pulled.

03 — Build
What sits behind the holes
A perforated bag needs a lining that is not an afterthought, because the lining is visible through every opening and is the only thing between the contents and the outside. Microfibre is used here: it is dense enough not to show light through the holes and smooth enough that nothing catches on it.
The base is the other consideration. A bucket bag is set down on its base constantly, and on a perforated body the base is the one panel that is left solid — for exactly that reason.

The pouch is the part you will actually use
A bucket bag has one deep opening and no compartments, which means cards and keys sink. The round pouch clips inside for that, or comes off entirely and goes on its own — which is what turns a single bag into a bag and a card case for an evening.
05 — Proportions
Fourteen centimetres deep on a 23 cm frame
That ratio is what makes a bucket bag hold more than it looks like it should. A flat 23 cm bag takes a phone and a wallet; at 14 cm of depth the same footprint takes a small water bottle standing upright, a folded scarf and everything else.
The 48 cm strap puts it under the arm rather than at the hip — the right height for a bag that opens at the top, because a bag you have to lift to open is one you stop opening.

Why this makes sense
Perforation wastes leather — the material punched out is gone, and the hide has to be selected clean enough that the pattern is not interrupted by a natural mark. Add a lining that has to look finished because it is on show, and a solid base panel, and the cost is higher than a plain bucket bag of the same size, not lower.

Before you order
Can you see inside through the holes?
No. The lining is dense enough that the perforation reads as texture from the outside rather than as an opening. You see the lining colour, not the contents.
Does the drawstring actually close it?
It gathers the top shut and holds. It is not a zip — a drawstring bucket is never fully sealed — but the braided leather holds the gather where you set it rather than working loose as you walk.
Is the pouch attached?
It clips on and comes off completely. Keep it inside for cards and keys, or carry it alone — that is the point of clipping it rather than sewing it in.
