01 — The idea
A flat bag has no wasted volume
Bags with a built-in gusset are always carrying air. The depth is there whether you need it or not, so an under-filled bag looks half empty and a structured one cannot be made smaller. A flat-cut bag has no fixed volume at all: it lies against you with a laptop in it and disappears to almost nothing with a phone and keys. The same bag does both, and neither state looks wrong.
02 — Design
Forty-two by fifty is a working size
Most large hobos are wide and short, which is a shape that swallows things sideways. This one is taller than it is wide — a proportion that lets a laptop, a folder or a sketchbook stand upright inside instead of lying across the opening.
Fifty centimetres of height with a 25 cm strap drop means the bag sits low against the body, roughly at the hip, and stays there. A shorter drop on a bag this tall would push the whole thing up under the arm, where nothing this size belongs.

03 — Build
The handle is doing all the work
On a flat bag there is no frame, no base and no structure of any kind. Everything that goes in hangs from one point: the handle. That is why it is braided rather than cut as a single strap — a twisted construction spreads the load across several strands instead of concentrating it in one, and it keeps its shape under weight where a flat strap would fold.
The main compartment is open, with no zip. On a bag that changes shape constantly, a zip would fight the fabric at every point along its length and pucker within months.

04 — Versatility
It holds a laptop and packs flat in a suitcase
Those two things are normally mutually exclusive. A bag big enough for a laptop usually has the structure to go with it, and takes up that space in your luggage whether it is full or not. With no gusset there is nothing to collapse — it lies in a case like a folded jumper and comes out ready to carry a day's work.
05 — What it holds
More than the flat profile suggests
A laptop, a wallet, a phone, cosmetics and whatever else the day needs — side by side rather than stacked, because at 42 by 50 centimetres the face of the bag is large enough for everything to sit in one layer.
The honest limitation is that it is open at the top and has no compartments. Small items find the bottom corners. If that matters to you, a pouch inside solves it; nothing in the bag's own construction will.

Jacquard is woven with the pattern built into the cloth on the loom rather than printed onto finished fabric. It costs more up front and it is the reason the surface does not crack at the folds — which matters a great deal on a bag designed to fold.

Before you order
Will it stand up on its own?
No. There is no base and no gusset — empty, it lies flat. That is the point of the construction, and it is why the bag packs away in a suitcase. If you want a silhouette that holds itself, this is the wrong shape.
Does a laptop really fit?
Yes, standing upright rather than lying flat — the bag is taller than it is wide, which is what makes that possible. There is no padded sleeve, so a laptop case is worth using.
Can it be worn across the body?
The drop is about 25 cm, which puts it on the shoulder at hip height. It can be crossed over on a smaller frame, but it is cut as a shoulder bag and that is where it sits best.
