01 — The idea
A wide opening is only useful if the contents stay put
Bags that fold open on both sides show you everything at once — which is the whole appeal, and also the problem. Nothing is held in place, so the moment you lift the bag the contents slide to the middle and you are back to rummaging. A full-height leather divider fixes that: two compartments that each keep their own shape, and an opening that still shows you both.
02 — Design
Why there are two locks and not one
A single central lock on a 40 cm opening leaves the two ends free to gape. With one turn-lock at each side the top line is held down along its whole length, which is the only way a wide frame bag closes flat rather than bowing open in the middle.
It also changes how the bag is used. Release one lock and you open half the bag; release both and it folds right out. On a bag this size that is a genuinely useful distinction.

03 — Build
A kilo and a quarter, and where it goes
Most of that weight is not the weave — it is the frame, the two locks, the leather divider and the metal feet. A woven bag of the same dimensions without any of those would come in at half the weight and would also fold shut on itself the first time it was set down loaded.

Is 1.25 kg heavy for a woven bag?
For a woven bag, yes — and the weight is in the frame, the locks, the divider and the feet rather than in the weave. A lighter bag of these dimensions has left some of those out, which is worth knowing when comparing.
Does the divider come out?
No — it is fixed, full height, and part of the structure. That is what lets each half hold its own shape when the bag is open.
Will a laptop fit?
