01 — The idea
Linen is one of the few fibres that gets stronger when it is wet
Cotton loses strength as it absorbs water and stays damp for hours. Linen does the opposite — the fibre firms up wet, and it releases moisture far faster afterwards. On a bag that will meet a damp towel, a wet swimsuit or a rained-on afternoon, that is not a detail of the specification. It is the reason the material was chosen.
02 — Design
Leather where the cloth would wear
The trim runs along the top edge and down the side seams — the two lines a tote is gripped by and rubbed against. Canvas wears thin at exactly those places, and it does so slowly enough that most people only notice when it is too late to do anything about it.
Putting leather there rather than spreading it around the bag as decoration is a structural decision that happens to look considered. It also gives the top edge enough body to keep its line rather than rolling inward.

03 — Build
A lining changes what a beach tote can be
Woven and unlined bags let sand fall through, which is ideal at the beach and useless everywhere else — there is nothing to stop a pen, a key or a coin working into the weave. A lined interior gives you a closed surface, a flat inner pocket, and a bag that works on a Tuesday as well as in August.

Thirty-seven by twenty-six takes a large laptop lying flat against the back panel, with a wallet, sunglasses, keys and cosmetics in front. The inner pocket holds whatever you do not want loose — which in an unlined bag is the thing that always ends up at the bottom.
Twelve centimetres is a moderate depth by design. It is enough to be useful and not so much that the bag becomes a shapeless sack when it is only half full.

Why this makes sense
Linen costs several times what cotton canvas does, and it is harder to sew — the fibre is less forgiving and shows a crooked seam immediately. Adding a lining and a pocket on top of that is more construction again. None of it is visible next to a cotton tote in a photograph, and all of it is the difference over a few seasons.

Before you order
Does linen crease?
It softens and creases with use, which is what linen does and what most people want from it. It is not a fault and it does not weaken the cloth — if you want a surface that stays flat and new-looking, coated canvas is the material to choose instead.
Will a laptop fit?
Yes, flat against the back panel at 37 cm wide. There is no padded sleeve, so a case is worth using.
How do I clean it?
Spot-clean the linen with a barely damp cloth and let it air dry in shape. Wipe the leather separately and dry — the two materials dry at different rates, which is what leaves a line along the join if the whole bag is soaked.

The cloth is woven in set lengths and the natural tone varies between them. Bags are cut from a single run so the colour matches across the panels, and that is what caps each batch.
