01 — The idea
Every drawstring bag has the same flaw
To reach anything you have to loosen the cord, open the gather, find what you want and close it again. For a wallet at a till or a phone on a platform that is four actions too many, and it is why so many bucket bags end up carried permanently open. Exterior pockets solve it completely: the things you reach for repeatedly never go inside the bag at all.
02 — Design
A chain that closes the bag and carries it
The same chain runs through the gather at the top and continues into the shoulder handle. One component doing two jobs means there is no separate drawcord to fray and no second set of anchor points to fail — and pulling the handle up naturally tightens the closure as you lift.
It is threaded with leather along its length, which keeps the metal off knitwear and takes the noise out of a chain that moves every time you do.

03 — Build
Pockets that hang off a soft body
Putting a pocket on the outside of an unstructured bag is harder than it sounds. The panel behind it has to carry the pocket's weight without pulling out of line, and on a quilted surface the stitching has to land between the diamonds rather than across them or the whole grid distorts around it.
Each pocket closes under its own flap, so what is in them stays in them when the bag swings. Inside, a matching pouch for everything that would otherwise reach the bottom.

04 — Versatility
Forty centimetres wide is a day bag, not an evening one
Most quilted chain bags are small and formal. At 40 by 30 by 15 this one is built around carrying things rather than around being looked at — a tablet, a wallet, cosmetics and a bottle, with the outside pockets holding what you actually keep reaching for.
05 — How it is organised
Three places instead of one
The main compartment takes the bulk. The two exterior pockets take the phone, the card you need at a gate, the keys. The pouch inside takes the small loose things that would otherwise sink to the bottom of thirty centimetres of soft bag.
That is the argument for this shape over a plain bucket: not more capacity, but somewhere sensible for each kind of thing you carry.
06 — The value
Why this makes sense
Quilting means every added component has to be placed against the grid rather than wherever is convenient. Two exterior pockets, a chain running through the gather and anchors for a shoulder handle are four separate interruptions to that pattern, and each one has to line up. It is slow work and it is invisible when it is done properly — which is exactly why it is the first thing simplified away.

Before you order
Does the drawstring hold it shut?
It gathers the top closed and the chain holds the gather where you set it. It is not a zip — no drawstring bag is sealed — but it does not work loose as you walk, and lifting the handle tightens it further.
Are the exterior pockets secure?
Each closes under its own flap, so the contents stay put when the bag moves. They are made for quick access rather than for valuables — anything you would not want reached should go in the main compartment.
Does the chain damage clothing?
Less than a bare chain would. The leather threaded through the links keeps the metal edges off fabric, which is the main reason for doing it.
