01 — The idea
Most totes are tall and flat, which is the worst shape for finding things
A deep, narrow bag forces everything into a stack: the thing you want is under three others, and the only way to reach it is to lift them out. This one is almost as deep as it is tall. That gives it a genuine floor, so the same contents lie side by side in a single layer and you can see all of them at once.
02 — Design
Depth has to be built into the pattern
You cannot add depth to a bag afterwards. A 19 cm gusset means the side panels, the base and the top line are all cut for that volume from the start, and the quilting grid has to wrap around the corners without the diamonds distorting where the panels turn.
That is the part that shows. On a deep quilted bag the corners are where you can see whether the pattern was planned or simply applied to flat pieces and folded.

03 — Build
Eight hundred and fifty grams, and where it is not
For a structured quilted bag of this volume that is light, and the reason is that the structure comes from the quilting rather than from a board in every panel. Padding stitched into a grid is rigid in two directions at once, which is exactly what a boxy shape needs and what a flat reinforcement panel does badly.
Metal feet under the base, because a deep bag is set down loaded, and a removable zip pocket inside for the small things that would otherwise use the floor you paid for.

04 — Versatility
The handles adjust from hand height to the shoulder
At their shortest the handles sit close to the top line and the bag is carried in the hand. Let them out and they clear a shoulder. On a bag that is genuinely deep — and therefore heavy when it is full — that second position is what makes the volume usable rather than theoretical.
05 — Capacity
What nineteen centimetres of depth actually gives you
A bottle standing upright rather than lying down. A folded jumper next to a wash bag. A camera, a lens, a notebook — side by side on the floor of the bag instead of stacked on top of each other.
What it does not take is anything large and flat. At 28.5 cm wide a laptop will not go in, and the boxy proportion that makes the depth useful is exactly what rules that out.

Why this makes sense
Depth costs leather in a way width does not — a 19 cm gusset uses several times the material of a 5 cm one, and every extra centimetre has to be quilted, formed and joined at the corners. It is the reason genuinely deep bags are uncommon at any price, and why most totes are flat panels that photograph larger than they hold.

Before you order
Will a laptop fit?
No. At 28.5 cm wide it is too narrow, and the boxy proportion that makes the depth useful is what rules out anything large and flat. This is a bag for bulky things rather than for slim ones.
Does the interior pocket come out?
Yes — it unclips completely, so you can carry it separately or take it out when you want the full volume of the bag.
Does it stand up on its own?
Yes, empty and loaded. The quilting gives the panels their rigidity and the metal feet keep the formed base off the surface it is set down on.
