01 — The idea
A quilting grid is a promise about precision
It is a repeating pattern, which means any inconsistency compares itself to its neighbour immediately — one diamond slightly wider than the next is obvious in a way that an uneven seam never is. On a seventeen-centimetre face there are only so many diamonds, so each one carries more of the judgement. Add a pale colour with no shadow to hide in, and this is the hardest test a quilted bag can be given.
02 — Design
Where the grid meets the edge
The place to look on any quilted bag is the perimeter. A pattern that was planned meets all four edges cleanly; one that was applied to a sheet and then cut to size ends in half-diamonds along the sides, and once you have noticed it you cannot stop noticing it.
The same applies where the panels turn the corner into the gusset. The grid has to continue around rather than restart, which means the pieces are cut to the pattern rather than the pattern being fitted to the pieces.

03 — Build
Padding is what makes quilting a structure
Stitching a grid through padded leather makes a panel rigid in two directions at once. That is why a bag this small stands up on its own without a board behind the front and back — the quilting is doing the work a frame would otherwise have to do, and doing it at a fraction of the weight.
It also means the padding has to be consistent. A thin patch shows as a flat diamond in the middle of a raised field, and no amount of careful stitching corrects it afterwards.

Before you order
Will a pale blue bag mark?
The usual culprit is dye transfer from dark denim rather than wear. Keep it off indigo and wipe it the same day if it happens. Quilting helps here — contact lands on the raised diamonds rather than across a flat panel.
Does it stand up on its own?
Yes. The quilting makes the panels rigid, so the shape is the same on a table as it is in the photographs — with nothing inside it.
Is the strap included?
Yes, along with the charms. The strap is removable and adjusts to around 105 cm, which is a full crossbody length.
