01 — The idea
Small bags lose their usefulness in the depth, not the width
A 23 cm bag sounds compact and workable until you find it is four centimetres deep, at which point it holds a phone and a card and nothing with any thickness. Ten centimetres changes the category entirely: a bottle stands, a compact lies flat, and things sit side by side on a floor rather than wedged against each other.
02 — Design
Canvas body, leather where it is handled
The body combines canvas with calf leather rather than using either alone. Canvas is lighter, does not stretch and takes rain without marking; leather goes on the handles, the top edge and the corners — the places a bag is gripped, set down and rubbed against.
That division is why the bag stays light at a genuine 10 cm depth. An all-leather version of the same dimensions would weigh noticeably more for no gain anywhere that matters.

03 — Build
Snaps instead of a zip or a flap
Two press studs at the sides pull the gussets inward. Closed, the bag narrows into a neater shape; open, the full ten centimetres are back. It is a mechanism with no moving parts, nothing to jam and nothing to replace — which on a bag meant to be used rather than admired is worth more than a closure that looks more sophisticated.
The interior is canvas throughout, with nothing sewn in to divide it. On a bag this size dividers take more space than they organise.

04 — Versatility
The size that fits between a handbag and a tote
Twenty-three centimetres is small enough to carry to dinner and large enough for a working afternoon. Most bags sit clearly on one side of that line; a compact shape with real depth is the rare thing that does not have to choose.

A phone, a wallet, keys, cosmetics, sunglasses and a small bottle standing upright — the last of those being the thing a compact bag usually cannot do at all.
What it will not take is anything flat and large. At 23 cm wide a tablet does not go in, and no amount of depth changes that.

Why this makes sense
Depth costs material and construction on a small bag just as it does on a large one — a 10 cm gusset uses more than twice the panel of a 4 cm one, and it has to be formed rather than folded. That is the reason most compact totes are flat, and it is not a design decision.

Before you order
What do the side snaps do?
They fold the side gussets inward, which narrows the bag into a neater shape. Undone, the full 10 cm depth is available. It takes a second and there is nothing mechanical to wear out.
Does it close?
The top is open — the snaps shape the sides rather than sealing the bag. For a compact tote carried in the hand that is normal; for a crowded commute it is worth knowing.
How do I clean canvas and leather together?
Brush the canvas dry and wipe the leather separately with a dry cloth. Never soak the whole bag — the two materials dry at different rates and that is what leaves a line along the join.

Combining two materials in one body means two sets of cutting, two sets of edges and a join that has to be right on every panel. It is slower per bag than a single-material build, and the run reflects that.
