01 — The idea
Untreated leather is the only part of a bag that improves
Everything else on a bag is at its best on day one and manages decline from there. Natural vegetable-tanned leather does the opposite: it has no protective coating, so light and the oils from your hands darken it gradually from pale honey into a deep amber that no factory finish reproduces. It is also completely unforgiving in the first months, and there is no point pretending otherwise.
02 — Design
Coated canvas and untreated leather, on the same bag
The two materials age in opposite directions and that is the point. The canvas is sealed — it wipes clean, resists rain and looks the same in year five as in week one. The leather trim is open and takes everything in.
Put them together and the bag has a fixed frame of reference: the canvas stays constant while the trim moves, so the change is visible rather than gradual and unnoticed. A bag finished entirely in treated leather simply does not do this.

03 — Build
A double zip over a dome
The top of this shape is a curve in two directions at once, and a zip has to follow it without puckering anywhere along its length. It is one of the harder closures in bag making, which is why most curved bags of this size use a flap or a single short zip instead.
Two pulls rather than one means it opens from either end or part-way — the practical difference on a 23.5 cm opening between reaching in for one thing and having the whole bag gape.

04 — Versatility
A 24 cm handle and a 115 cm strap do different jobs
The handles clear a forearm and put the bag in the crook of the arm, which is how a structured dome is meant to be carried. The strap takes it across the body entirely and comes off when you do not want it. Neither is a compromise version of the other.
05 — What fits
Eleven and a half centimetres deep
A phone, a wallet, keys, a compact, sunglasses and a small bottle standing upright. The depth is what makes a 23.5 cm bag genuinely useful — the same footprint at 5 cm would be an evening bag.
It will not take anything flat and large. The curved top narrows the opening, so a tablet does not go in even though the width suggests it might.
06 — The value
Why this makes sense
Untreated leather is more expensive than finished leather, not less — it has to be clean enough to be seen without a coating covering it, and any flaw is permanent because there is nothing on top to hide it. Combine that with a double zip eased around a dome and the two costliest things on this bag are the two that look simplest.

08 — Questions
Before you order
Will the pale leather stain?
In the first months, yes — it has no protective coating, which is exactly why it darkens the way it does. Marks that appear early tend to disappear into the overall tone as the leather deepens. If that prospect bothers you, a coated trim is the better choice.
Can I speed up the darkening?
Indirect daylight does it evenly. Do not use oils or conditioners to force it — they darken patchily and permanently, and the uneven result cannot be corrected.
How do I clean the canvas?
A barely damp soft cloth on the canvas only, and nothing at all on the leather trim. Keep water off the pale leather — it leaves a permanent ring.

Trim that will be seen without a finish over it has to be cut from a flawless section of hide, and the pieces on one bag have to match each other closely enough to darken together.
