01 — The idea
Soft bags usually collapse. This one is padded instead
There are two ways to make a bag that isn't stiff. The cheap way is to leave it unlined and let it fold flat the moment it is empty. The other way is to quilt padding between the outer fabric and the lining, so the walls have body of their own. That is what happens here: the bag is soft everywhere you press it and still stands up on a table with nothing inside.
02 — Design
Twelve centimetres of depth, and you can see them
Depth is the measurement people skip and then regret. Twelve centimetres is unusually deep for a shoulder bag of this width — it is the difference between a bag that takes a phone and a bag that takes a phone, a glasses case, a small bottle and a folded scarf without pressing against the flap.
On a padded bag the depth is also visible. The quilted panels round outwards rather than lying flat, so the volume reads from the side as well as from the front.

03 — Build
A chain with leather through the middle
A bare chain on the shoulder digs in and slides off. Running a leather band through the centre section solves both at once: the leather sits against the shoulder and grips, while the chain carries the weight and does the work of looking like metal.
The hardware is antique gold rather than bright gold — a darker, matt finish that shows fingerprints and small scratches far less.

04 — Versatility
Doubled on the shoulder, full length across the body
The chain doubles over on itself to sit high under the arm, or runs at full length across the chest. It is the same strap in both cases, so nothing has to be detached, stored or found again — which is why detachable straps so often end up in a drawer while the bag is worn one way forever.
05 — The denim
It arrives already washed, which is the point
The denim is a mid, uneven wash — lighter along the quilted ridges where the fabric stands proud, darker in the valleys. That is not a printed effect; it is what happens when woven indigo is washed after it has been quilted, and it is why the panels read as three-dimensional in flat light.
Practically, a pre-washed denim has already done most of its shrinking and most of its fading. It will keep softening with wear, and the ridges will keep going pale before the rest, but it will not lurch in colour the way raw denim does. Keep it out of prolonged direct sun, and spot-clean rather than soaking it — the padding inside takes a long time to dry.
06 — The value

Quilting padding between two layers and keeping the chevrons aligned across the seams is slow work — it is the reason most denim bags are flat, unpadded and stitched in a plain grid.

08 — Questions
Before you order
Will the denim fade?
Slowly, and mostly along the quilted ridges where the fabric is highest. It has already been washed, so it will not change dramatically. Keeping it out of long direct sun is the one thing that matters.
Does it keep its shape when empty?
Yes. The padding gives the walls their own body, so it stands rather than folding flat. It will still press soft under your hand — that is the intended feel, not a fault.
Can I clean it?
Spot-clean with a barely damp cloth and let it dry in the air. Do not soak it: there is padding between the layers and it holds water for a very long time.

Each wash lot comes out slightly different, and once a lot is finished the next one is never quite the same blue. What is in stock now is what this shade is.
