01 — The idea
A single number would be a lie
Most bags are boxes, so one width describes them. This one is a curve: narrower where the handle meets the body, wider through the belly, and it changes again depending on how full it is. Publishing 20–23 cm instead of picking the flattering end is the whole point — you are being told the shape, not sold a number.
02 — Design
The handle is part of the outline
On most top-handle bags the handle is an attachment: it sits above the body and the two read as separate objects. Here the handle curves out of the body and back into it, closing a loop, so the bag has one continuous silhouette from any angle.
That is also why it hangs the way it does under the arm. A closed loop has no free end to swing, so it stays where you put it.

03 — Build
Six centimetres deep, and that is deliberate
A curved bag cannot be deep without becoming a ball. Six to seven centimetres is the point where it still holds a phone lying flat and a wallet beside it, while staying thin enough to sit against the body rather than standing off it.
The zip runs the length of the top and follows the curve rather than cutting straight across it, which is harder to set and is the reason the mouth opens evenly instead of pinching at the ends.

04 — Versatility
Two bags, depending on one clip
With the strap off, the short handle holds it high under the arm and it reads as a small evening shape. With the strap let out to 110 centimetres it hangs at the hip and reads as an everyday one. The difference is not a compromise between the two — the proportions genuinely work in both.
05 — What fits
Measured against a large phone
The useful test for a bag this size is whether a full-size phone goes in without being forced. It does — including the largest current models, lying flat rather than wedged diagonally — and there is room beside it for a card holder, keys and a lipstick.
What it will not take is a long wallet standing upright, a water bottle, or anything rigid deeper than seven centimetres. The interior is one open compartment, so small things move around; if that bothers you, a flat pouch inside solves it and still leaves room.

Curves are expensive. Every panel has to be cut on a shaped pattern, the zip has to be eased around a bend, and gathered leather uses noticeably more hide than a flat panel of the same finished size. A straight-sided version of this bag would cost less to make and would not look like this.

So how wide is it really?
About 20 cm at the narrowest point near the handle and about 23 cm at the widest part of the belly. Empty it sits nearer the low number; full, nearer the high one.
Will nappa leather scratch?
It is a soft leather, so it takes marks more readily than a hard grained one. The gathered surface hides them unusually well — there is no flat plane for a scuff to sit on.
Is the strap thin on the shoulder?
Yes, deliberately — it is a light bag and a narrow strap keeps the proportions right. If you plan to carry it heavy all day, the top handle is the more comfortable option.
