01 — The idea
A zip is cheap, and it is also why bags sag at the top
Stitch a zip across an opening and the two sides pull inward every time it closes; over a year that becomes a permanent curve in what was meant to be a straight line. A frame does the opposite. It holds the mouth open to its full width, keeps the top edge dead straight for the life of the bag, and opens with one hand in a single movement.
02 — Design
Trapezoid, because a frame demands it
The body narrows from a wide top to a smaller base. That is not a styling choice made on paper — a framed opening has to be the widest line on the bag or the frame looks bolted on, and the taper is what carries that width down into a shape that still sits neatly against the body.
The leather is satin-finished rather than matt or high-gloss: a low sheen that follows the flat panels without turning them into mirrors. On a shape made almost entirely of straight lines, that restraint is what stops it looking hard.

03 — Build
Everything the frame touches has to be exact
Leather is stretched and set into a metal channel around the entire opening, and there is no adjusting it afterwards — if a panel is a millimetre out, the frame will not close flush and the fault is permanent. It is the single least forgiving operation in bag making, and it is why a frame bag either looks right or looks wrong with nothing in between.
Inside there is one main compartment and a flat pocket against the back wall, lined in lamb leather throughout.

04 — Versatility
It opens all the way, every time
Twenty-seven centimetres of opening that stays open while you look into it. No holding one side while you rummage with the other, no zip catching on a lining, no dark slot you have to feel your way into. On a bag this size that single behaviour changes how often you actually reach for it.
05 — The handle
Nine centimetres — a hand bag in the literal sense
The drop is short and deliberately so: a framed top does not want a strap pulling it out of line. It carries in the hand or hooked over two fingers, and it will not go over a shoulder. If you need shoulder carry, this is not the bag, and we would rather you knew that on this page than at the door.
06 — The value
Why this makes sense
A frame adds a metal component, a channel-setting operation and a rejection rate — bags that do not close flush cannot be fixed, they are scrapped. Most makers dropped the frame for exactly that reason and replaced it with a zip nobody complains about. Keeping it is a cost decision rather than a design flourish.

Before you order
Does the frame stay shut?
Yes — the clasp holds it under tension, so it does not drift open the way a magnetic flap can. It is a closure you operate deliberately, which is the trade for how completely it opens when you want it to.
Can I add a shoulder strap?
There are no side rings for one, and we would not recommend improvising. A strap pulling from the sides works against the frame it is fixed to — this bag is designed around being carried in the hand.
How do I look after a satin finish?
A dry soft cloth, in long strokes along the panel rather than in circles — circular rubbing is what dulls a low sheen into patches. Keep the frame free of grit at the hinge and it will keep closing flush.
