01 — The idea
Most convertible bags are one bag with a spare strap
There is a permanent handle stitched to the top and a strap you can add — which means the handle is there whether you want it or not, and it shows on every photograph of you wearing it. Here both pieces clip on. Take them both off and what is left is a clean rectangle with two small rings and nothing else, which is a third way to carry it and the reason the shape reads as calm rather than busy.
02 — Design
Dark silver, not gold, and it matters on black
Gold on a black bag is a contrast: the metal separates from the leather and becomes the first thing you see. A dark ruthenium tone does the opposite — it sits close enough to black that the chain reads as part of the bag rather than as jewellery attached to it, and the crystal ornament on the flap is left as the single bright point.
The chain itself is a rope twist rather than flat links. It is the heavier of the two constructions and the one that does not kink when it is doubled over on itself, which is what you do every time you shorten it to the shoulder.

Open the flap and the interior is smooth leather rather than textile. On a bag ten centimetres tall that is a real decision: leather lining costs several times what a fabric one does, weighs more, and is invisible in every photograph except the one where the flap is up.
What it buys is an inside that does not fray at the opening — which on a bag you open twenty times a day is the edge that fails first on a textile lining.

Three ways, and none of them is the compromise
Chain at full length, across the body. Chain doubled, on the shoulder. Handle alone, in the hand for an evening — or nothing at all, held flat like a clutch. A bag that hides its fittings when they are off is what makes the last of those work, and it is the one most convertible bags cannot do.
05 — What fits
A phone lying flat, and that is the measure
Nineteen centimetres of length is what lets a full-size phone lie flat along the bag rather than standing on its end or going in at an angle. Beside it: a card case, a lipstick and keys. That is the whole capacity and it is stated plainly rather than described as generous.
Six centimetres of depth is deliberate on a bag ten centimetres tall. Any more and the proportion tips from flat to boxy, and a flat bag is what stays against the body on a long chain instead of swinging away from it.
06 — The value
Why this makes sense
Smooth leather on a small bag is the least forgiving surface there is. There is no grain to break up light, so every panel has to be cut from an unmarked section and every seam is on display at reading distance — which is exactly where a 19 cm bag is always seen.

Before you order
Can I wear it with nothing attached?
Yes — that is the third option. With both pieces off you are left with two small rings at the top corners and an otherwise clean rectangle, which works held flat in the hand.
Does the chain dig into the shoulder?
At full length across the body, no — the weight is spread over a long run. Doubled on one shoulder it is a narrow band, which is normal for a chain and is the reason the leather handle is included.
Will a large phone fit?
Lying flat along the length, yes — 19 cm is enough for current full-size models. What it will not take is a long wallet standing upright.

Smooth black is the hardest cut
A panel with no grain and no texture has to come from a section of hide with nothing in it at all, because there is nowhere for a natural marking to hide. That rules out most of each skin before cutting begins.
