01 — The idea
A lining would take a third of this bag
Lining material has thickness — not much, but two layers of it inside a three-centimetre bag is close to a centimetre of the only depth there is. On a deep bag nobody notices. Here it is the difference between a phone going in flat and a phone going in at an angle, which is why this one is left unlined and why that is a decision rather than an omission.
02 — Design
Canvas for the panel, leather for the edge
The body is a firm canvas and the trim that runs all the way round the perimeter is calf leather. That division is structural rather than decorative: a canvas edge frays, and a bag three centimetres deep is almost all edge. Binding the whole perimeter in leather is what makes the shape hold its outline.
The same logic puts leather on the strap, the card slot and the hanging hook — every part that is handled — and leaves canvas on the two panels that are only looked at.

03 — Build
Unlined means the inside is the construction
There is no fabric covering the seam allowances, so every seam is finished on the face you can see when the zip is open. That is roughly the same standard of work a reversible bag needs, on a bag that never gets turned inside out — which is why it is so rarely done.
It also keeps the weight down to almost nothing. A three-centimetre canvas bag with no lining is as close to carrying nothing as a real bag gets.

04 — Versatility
Flat is what makes a crossbody wearable
A deep bag on a hundred-centimetre strap swings away from you and comes back. Three centimetres does not — it lies against the body and stays there through a day of walking, sitting and getting on and off things. It is the least dramatic advantage a bag can have and the one you notice every single time.
05 — What fits
A phone, cards, and that is the list
Twenty-eight centimetres of width means a phone lies flat along the bag with keys and a lipstick beside it. The card slot on the outside takes what you reach for most, so the zip stays shut for the rest.
What it will not take is a wallet with any thickness, a compact, or anything rigid. Three centimetres is stated plainly at the top of this page for exactly that reason — this is a bag for going out, not a bag for a working day.
06 — The value
Why this makes sense
Binding a curved perimeter in leather is slow work — the strip has to be eased around the arc without bunching on the inside of the curve, and on a half-moon almost the entire outline is curved. An unlined interior then removes the layer that would have covered any of it up.

Before you order
Is three centimetres really usable?
For a phone, cards, keys and a lipstick, yes — comfortably, and they lie flat rather than being forced. For a wallet, a compact or anything with thickness, no. That is the honest boundary and it is why the number is at the top of the page.
Does an unlined bag mark on the inside?
The canvas is firm and will take a mark from an open pen the way any pale material does. Nothing else in a bag this size touches it hard enough to matter.
How do I clean canvas and leather together?
Brush the canvas dry and spot-clean it with a barely damp cloth; wipe the leather separately and dry. Never soak it — the two dry at different rates and that is what leaves a line along the binding.
