01 — The idea
A straight zip is set in minutes. A curved one is not.
Zip tape is manufactured flat and wants to stay flat. Setting it around the arc of a crescent means easing it into a curve over the full length of the opening without a single pucker appearing anywhere along it, and there is no way to correct one afterwards. It is the reason most crescent bags use a flap instead, and it is the first thing worth looking at on any bag shaped like this.
02 — Design
The chain is a strap and an ornament
Clipped along the front it hangs as a swag across the face of the bag and the leather strap does the carrying. Clipped at both ends instead, it becomes the strap and the leather one comes off. It is the same piece doing two jobs, which is rarer than it sounds — most bags that include a chain give you one that only works one way.
The leather strap is adjustable, so the bag sits where you want it rather than where the pattern decided.

03 — Build
Microfibre, because a curve has no corners to lose things in
The lining is microfibre rather than a woven textile. It is denser, it does not pill along a seam, and it holds its colour — which matters on a bag whose interior is visible along the whole length of the opening every time the zip is undone.
There is one flat interior pocket. On a bag five centimetres deep that is the correct number: anything more would take space the bag does not have, and anything less leaves a card loose against a phone screen.

04 — Versatility
Shoulder, crossbody, hand — or wrist
The last of those is the one nobody expects. Shortened right down, the strap becomes a wrist loop and the bag sits in the hand like a clutch with nothing to hold on to. On a 0.4 kg bag that is genuinely comfortable for an evening, which it would not be on anything heavier.

Twenty-eight and a half centimetres long
That length is what makes a five-centimetre bag useful: a long wallet lies flat along the arc rather than being wedged in, with a phone, headphones, keys and a lipstick around it. The shape holds more than its depth suggests because it is wide, not because it is deep.
What it will not take is anything with thickness. Five centimetres is an evening depth and the zip closes over a flat load or it does not close flat at all.

Why this makes sense
Curved construction costs at every stage. Each panel is cut on a shaped pattern with more waste around it, the seams are eased rather than run straight, and the zip is set by hand around an arc. A rectangular bag of the same materials would be considerably quicker to make and would not look like anything.

Before you order
Can the chain be worn as the strap?
Yes. It clips at both ends as a shoulder strap, or along the front as a swag while the leather strap carries the bag. Both pieces are included and either can be taken off entirely.
Will a long wallet fit?
Lying flat along the length, yes — 28.5 cm is what the shape is for. Standing upright or anything thick, no; five centimetres of depth is the real limit here.
How do I clean coated canvas?
A barely damp soft cloth and nothing solvent-based, which attacks the coating. Wipe the leather trim separately and dry — it is uncoated and will mark if water is left on it.

An arc cut from a printed length leaves offcuts that nothing else uses, and the print has to run correctly across the curve on every single panel. Each run yields fewer bags than the same length of canvas would give in a rectangle.
