01 — The idea
A closure that is also the only ornament
Most bags add a piece of hardware to fasten and another to decorate. Here there is one ring, and it does both — it holds the handles together, it draws the opening closed, and it is the single point of gold on an otherwise unbroken black shape. Take it away and the bag has nothing to look at and no way to shut.
02 — Design
Twenty-two across the top, far less at the base
The body narrows as it goes down and flattens as it goes up, so the widest point is the opening and the footprint on a table is small. It is why the bag stands like an object rather than sitting like a container — and why the shape holds without any internal frame, because a narrow base under a wide top is self-supporting.
The trade is honest: a small base means it can be tipped. It stands, but it is not a bag to overload on one side.

03 — Build
Lined in pale leather, on purpose
The interior is a fine leather in a light tan rather than black. On a bag with a wide open top that is a practical decision before an aesthetic one: a pale lining reflects what little light reaches the inside, so you can see what is in there instead of reaching into a dark hole.
It is also leather rather than textile, which on a bag with no frame is what gives the walls enough body to hold the flare.

04 — Versatility
Twelve centimetres of handle, and a strap for the rest
Twelve centimetres is a hand and forearm height — it holds the bag upright where a sculptural shape wants to be seen. The removable strap, which is included, is what takes it to the shoulder when you need both hands. Neither is asked to do the other's job.
05 — What fits
Twenty-five tall, ten deep
Height is what this shape gives you. A tall water bottle stands upright, a long wallet goes in vertically, and a phone, keys and cosmetics sit around them rather than on top. Ten centimetres of depth at the widest point is a real volume for a bag with this small a footprint.
What it will not take is anything flat and wide. The opening is 22 centimetres but the body tapers below it, so a tablet reaches the narrow part and stops.

Before you order
How securely does the ring close it?
It gathers the handles together and narrows the opening rather than sealing it. Secure enough for ordinary use and for keeping things from falling out when the bag is set down — it is not a zip, and no bag with this shape has one.
Does it stand up on its own?
Yes, and that is the point of the narrow base. It is a small footprint though, so it can be tipped by a heavy load sitting to one side.
How do I look after smooth black leather?
A dry soft cloth. Smooth leather shows a scuff more readily than a grained one because there is no texture to break up the light, so keep it away from rough surfaces and sharp edges in a car door.

Panels that taper and flare cannot be nested tightly on a skin the way rectangles can, so more of each hide is left over as offcut. That, and smooth black leather needing a section with nothing in it, sets the run.
