01 — The idea
Every other closure has one correct position
A zip is open or shut. A magnet is engaged or not. A buckled strap across a gathered top is the only common closure with a range: pulled tight the mouth closes down to a narrow gap and the bag draws in at the shoulders; let out a hole or two it opens flat and wide. Neither is the right one. It depends on what you put in it that morning.
02 — Design
The handles pass through the bag, not over it
Look at where the handles meet the body. They do not stop at the top edge and get stitched down — they run through metal eyelets set into the front and back panels, which is why the top of the bag gathers into soft folds rather than sitting as a straight open line.
It also changes how the weight is carried. A handle threaded through an eyelet pulls on the panel itself rather than on a single stitched tab, so the load spreads across the width of the bag instead of concentrating at four points.

03 — Build
Nappa on the inside too
The lining is nappa leather rather than textile, with a slip pocket down the centre. On a soft unstructured bag that is doing real work: leather has body where fabric has none, so the walls hold apart enough that the bag does not collapse into a flat parcel when it is empty.
The central slip pocket is the other half of that. With no frame and 11.5 centimetres of depth, a divider down the middle is what stops everything sliding into one corner every time the bag is set down.

04 — Versatility
Thirty-two centimetres is a shoulder, not a hand
That is the measurement that decides how this bag is actually used. Thirty-two centimetres of carry length clears a shoulder over a jacket and lets the bag hang at the hip, which is where a soft gathered shape looks right. Held in the hand it works too, but the proportion was drawn for the shoulder.
05 — What fits
Eleven and a half centimetres deep
That depth on a 25 cm width is what makes this a real bag rather than a small one. A phone, a full wallet, keys, a compact and sunglasses go in with room to spare, and they sit on a floor rather than stacking against each other.
What it will not take is anything large and flat. A gathered top narrows the opening even when the strap is fully let out, so a tablet does not go in regardless of what the width suggests.

08 — Questions
Before you order
Does the front strap actually close it?
It gathers the top down to a narrow opening rather than sealing it. Pulled to the tightest hole the bag is closed in the way a drawstring is closed — secure enough for ordinary use, not a zip.
Will it hold its shape?
Partly. The nappa lining gives the walls enough body that it does not fold flat, but this is a soft bag by design and it settles around what is inside. It will not stand square on a table.
How do I look after nappa?
A dry soft cloth, and out of prolonged direct sun. It is a soft hide, so avoid loading it past the point where the gathers pull flat — that is the shape telling you it has enough in it.

A panel that gathers has to be cut considerably larger than the finished bag, because the folds consume length that a flat panel would not. Every run yields fewer bags per skin than the dimensions suggest.
