01 — The idea
A diamond grid forgives. A chevron does not.
On a diamond quilt the lines cross each other constantly, so a small error is absorbed into the next intersection and disappears. A chevron is two sets of parallel lines running toward a single seam down the middle — nothing crosses, nothing hides, and every line has to arrive at exactly the same height as the one coming the other way. It is the same amount of stitching and several times the precision.
02 — Design
Sheepskin, because chevron needs a soft hide
Quilting pushes leather up between the stitch lines, and how high it rises depends entirely on how supple the hide is. A firm calf leather gives a shallow, flat chevron; sheepskin gives the deep rounded ridges that make the pattern read from across a room rather than only up close.
It is also why the bag has no internal structure. The quilting itself gives the panels enough body to hold a shape, so there is no board inside adding weight to something meant to hang on a chain.

03 — Build
There is a leather pad on the chain
A bare metal chain on the shoulder is the single most common complaint about a bag like this. A leather insert set into the top of the chain puts a flat, wide surface where it rests on you, and it is the difference between wearing it for an evening and taking it off after an hour.
Open the flap and you can see where the chain actually attaches: two rings set into the back panel, well below the top edge, so the load pulls into the body of the bag rather than folding the opening forward.

04 — Versatility
Fifty-six doubled, a hundred and eight long
Those are two genuinely different bags. Doubled, it sits high under the arm where a 23 cm width stays out of the way. At full length it drops to the hip and crosses the body, hands free. The chain doubles over on itself rather than sliding through a buckle, so there is no slider to work loose as you walk.
05 — What fits
Twenty-three by sixteen by nine
Nine centimetres of depth is a lot on a bag this size, and it is where the capacity comes from. A phone, a full wallet, keys and a compact sit side by side on a floor rather than stacking flat against each other, and the interior pocket takes whatever you do not want loose among them.
The flap closes over all of it on a magnetic stud. There is no zip, which on a soft quilted bag is the right call — a zip needs a straight, firm top edge, and this one is deliberately neither.
06 — The value
Why this makes sense
Chevron quilting is the version of this technique that cannot be rushed, because the alignment at the centre seam either works or is visible from two metres away. Add sheepskin — softer, more expensive and harder to hold steady under a needle than calf — and the two costliest decisions on this bag are both in the front panel.

08 — Questions
Before you order
Will the quilting flatten over time?
The ridges are formed by stitching through padding, not pressed into the surface, so they do not flatten. Sheepskin softens with handling, which tends to make the chevron look deeper rather than shallower.
Is the chain uncomfortable?
There is a leather insert set into the section that rests on the shoulder, which is what makes the doubled length wearable. At full length across the body the weight spreads over a long run and the chain is barely noticed.
How do I look after sheepskin?
A dry soft cloth, and keep it out of prolonged direct sun. It is a softer hide than calf, so avoid overloading it — nine centimetres of depth is generous and it is easy to put more in than the shape wants.

A front panel where the chevron does not meet cleanly cannot be corrected afterwards — it is cut, stitched and finished, or it is not used. Each run yields fewer bags than the leather alone would suggest.
