01 — The idea
Put the decoration on the part you can remove
A patterned bag is patterned for as long as you own it. A plain bag with a patterned strap is two bags: one loud, one severe, and the change takes ten seconds. It only works if the body underneath is genuinely blank — which is why there is nothing on this one but a curved flap, a clasp and an unbroken black surface.
02 — Design
Antique gold rather than polished
A mirror-polished clasp on a plain black bag becomes the only bright thing in the frame and takes the eye immediately. An antique finish is darker and more diffuse — it reads as metal rather than as jewellery, which is what lets the flap stay the shape you notice rather than the fitting on it.
The flap itself is one continuous curve with no seam across the front. On smooth leather, a curved panel with no grain to hide behind is the least forgiving cut there is.

03 — Build
Two leathers, inside
The lining combines goatskin and calfskin rather than using one or a textile. Goatskin is the tougher of the two and takes the friction where things move against it; calfskin is smoother and goes where the bag is seen when the flap is open. It is a distinction nobody would notice and the reason the interior still looks new after a year.
There is an exterior pocket on the back panel — the fast one, facing the body — and a compartment inside for what you want kept apart.

04 — Versatility
Five centimetres wide, on a bag that weighs 530 grams
A strap that broad is not there because the bag is heavy — it is there because a wide band lies flat on the shoulder instead of rolling, and because it is the only surface on the bag large enough to carry a pattern. Twenty centimetres of adjustment then puts it anywhere from the shoulder to a long crossbody.
05 — What fits
Six and a half centimetres deep
A phone, a card holder, sunglasses, keys and a lipstick, with the flap closing flat over them. Twenty-two and a half centimetres of width is what makes that work — things lie along the bag rather than stacking, which is how a shallow shape stays shallow.
The back pocket takes what you reach for most, so the flap stays down for everything else. It faces the body, which makes it both the quickest place to get to and the hardest for anyone else.

Why this makes sense
Smooth black leather on a curved flap is the hardest combination to cut cleanly — no grain, no pattern, no texture, and a shape that shows any waviness along its whole edge. Before you order
Can I wear it without the strap?
Yes. With the strap unclipped the bag is a flat black flap piece held in the hand, and there are no empty fittings left showing — which is the point of putting all the pattern on the strap.
Will smooth black leather scratch?
It shows a scuff more readily than a grained hide because there is no texture to break up the light. Keep it clear of rough surfaces and the edge of a car door, and use a dry soft cloth.
Is 97 cm short enough for the shoulder?
Just — at 97 cm it sits high on one shoulder, and at 117 it drops to a full crossbody over a coat. Measure 97 cm against a strap you already wear if the higher position is the one you want.

There is no pattern, no grain and no quilting anywhere on this body, so a natural marking has nowhere to go. The flap alone rules out most of each skin, and the embroidered strap is woven in its own limited run.
