01 — The idea
Rattan is heavy, and we are going to say so
One point one kilograms empty, on a bag 24 centimetres wide. That is a great deal more than a leather bag of the same size, and there is no version of this material that is not. What you get for it is a body that holds its exact shape with nothing inside it — no stiffener, no board, no structure of any kind, because the woven rattan is already rigid. It is the trade, it is published at the top of the page, and it is yours to decide on.
02 — Design
An embroidered band, not a printed one
The navy stripe across the front is woven and embroidered rather than printed onto a ribbon. On a rattan body that is the only option that lasts — a printed band on a surface this textured would crack along every strand within a season.
The same fabric runs on the shoulder strap, which is wide rather than thin. A narrow strap under 1.1 kilograms would cut in; a broad embroidered band spreads it and matches the front at the same time.

03 — Build
The pouch is not an accessory
A woven basket has gaps, and gaps are where a card, a key or an earring goes. The jacquard pouch inside solves that completely: it has its own drawstring, it sits down in the base, and everything small lives in it rather than in the weave.
It is also separate rather than stitched in, so it lifts out and works on its own — and with it out, the basket is a clean open volume with nothing dividing it.

04 — Versatility
Forty-two centimetres of strap adjustment
Eighty-three puts it on the shoulder; a hundred and twenty-five drops it across the body. On a bag that weighs 1.1 kilograms before anything goes in, crossbody is the setting that makes the weight disappear — a long strap over the opposite shoulder is the one carry position where a rigid basket stops being noticeable.

A phone, a card holder, keys, sunglasses and a lipstick, with the pouch keeping the small things together. Twelve centimetres of depth in a rigid body is a fixed volume rather than a flexible one — what goes in has to fit as it is, because nothing here will stretch.
That rigidity is also the advantage: the bag stands open on a table, holds its shape completely empty, and protects whatever is inside it in a way a soft bag cannot.

Why this makes sense
Weaving rattan into a closed box shape with square corners is far harder than weaving a flat panel or an open tote — the material has to turn a corner and stay turned. Add an embroidered band, a matching woven strap and a separate lined pouch, and there are four distinct crafts in one bag.

Before you order
Is 1.1 kg too heavy?
It is heavy for the size, and that is why the number is at the top of this page rather than buried. Worn crossbody on the long strap it is comfortable for a day; carried in the hand for hours it is not. Rattan does not come lighter than this.
Can small things fall through the weave?
Out of the basket itself, potentially — which is exactly what the inner pouch is for. Keep cards, keys and jewellery in the pouch and nothing reaches the weave.
How do I look after rattan?
A dry soft brush, and keep it out of prolonged damp — rattan is a plant material and it swells and stiffens if it stays wet. It also dislikes being crushed, so store it upright rather than under something.

A rigid box shape has to be built up strand by strand around a form, and there is no way to make that faster. The run is decided by how many can be finished, and the natural rattan varies a little in tone between batches.
