01 — The idea
Summer texture usually means giving up the shape
A woven bag is warm, light and informal, and it is also the one that arrives at dinner looking like it has been in a beach bag all day. Working the weave over a rigid body solves it without losing anything: the surface still reads as handmade and the outline stays as crisp as a leather evening bag's.
02 — Design
The texture is the whole decoration
There is no print, no panel, no contrast trim. The only things on the outside of this bag are the weave and one gold-tone clasp at the centre of the flap, which is as far as a piece this small can go before it starts looking busy.
The fabric is a textile worked to a raffia effect rather than natural raffia — which is the honest description and also the practical one: it holds colour evenly, does not dry out, and will not fray at a cut edge the way a leaf fibre does.
The chain is gold-tone and fine-linked, so it reads as jewellery against the weave instead of as hardware.
03 — Build
Unlined, and finished on the inside
There is no fabric lining. On a bag with a woven surface a lining is usually there to hide the back of the weave — here the reverse is worked to the same standard as the front, so there is nothing to cover up and nothing to add weight.
The flap closes on a magnetic stud, which is the right closure at this size: one hand, no fiddling, and it does not interrupt the front of the bag with a second visible fitting.

A summer texture that works after dark
Woven usually means daytime and gold chain usually means evening. The point of putting them together is that this one crosses: it is at home over a linen dress at four in the afternoon and over black at nine, which is not something most occasion bags manage.

Short by design, and we will say how short
The chain measures around 30 cm as supplied, which puts the bag high — under the arm rather than at a full shoulder drop, and nowhere near crossbody. That is the right proportion for a 20.5 cm evening bag and the wrong one if you wanted it hanging at the hip. Better said here than discovered later.

Weaving over a form is slower than weaving flat. The surface has to be worked to the exact dimensions of the body beneath it, with no seam allowance to take up a mistake, and any unevenness shows immediately because the edges are straight lines rather than soft ones.

Before you order
Is it real raffia?
No — it is a textile woven to a raffia effect, and we would rather write that than let the photographs imply otherwise. In practice it holds its colour better and will not dry out or fray, which on a bag meant for evenings is the more useful behaviour.
Will a large phone fit?
At 20.5 by 11.5 cm, yes — lying flat along the width. What four centimetres of depth will not take is a phone plus a bulky wallet; at this size it is a phone and small flat things, and that is the honest limit.
How do I clean a woven surface?
A soft dry brush in the direction of the weave lifts dust out of the texture better than a cloth, which only drags it across the top. Keep it away from oils — a woven surface absorbs where a leather one wipes.
